I owned both machines ('85 350X/86 TRX250R) for a few months. Both were stock. The X is a very good machine, good power, reliable, awesome wheelies. It would not beat my R in a drag race or at a track. I can ride my R much faster on trails. The power is not uncontrollable.

Hey fruit (fruitjacket).... you my frined have got to be on dope... we drag race around here, during the season, and I know from experience that a DS, and an R stock (maybe a little ragged either way) is not a challenge. As much as I hate to say it a stock DS will flat out smoke an R... you are either smking something there buddy, or you'r bud can't ride...

Mad200Xer,

I'm sorry pal, but you're getting flamed here......

There is NO way, no matter who the rider, who can take a stock DS 650 and beat my 250r ATC.
Not on tar, gravel, sand, dirt or grass my friend. There is no flippin way.
Now, maybe it's cause it's an 86 liquid cooled. Or maybe the Boyesen Racing Reeds, but other than one bore job, it's bone stock.
I can tell you flat out, he can't touch me once I hit 5th gear. His rev limiter kicks in, and off I go. Oh yeah, and then I shift into 6th.

Now, if you think your DS650 can take my R. I'll meet ya somewhere to show ya.
Loser pays for others expenses.

Anytime.

I am not saying that your particular bike is peice of crap or anything because I would pic a 250r over a ds anyday of the week... But I have seen them race, drag style, with lights at 200ft dirt..... i have a seen a ds (wtih a ron woods revlimiter none the less) smoke a built 250r... it may be opinion, or facts... but I ave seen it happen... don't go getting hostile.. act like your at least half way mature...

OK man.

Listen up...I wasn't trying to act immature.
I wasn't the one who started out by claiming your a dope smoker.......right?

What I'm trying to say is any wheeler can beat any other if you've got a moron on a superior machine....

That being said...does anybody recall what dirt wheels recorded (with a radar gun, mind you) as the top speed of the 86 ATC 250R in the December 85 issue? 92 MPH. Look it up. It would take alot of mods to get a DS to do 92.

OK, so you said a 200 ft drag. Little different. 250R will spin from 1st - 3rd gears. A good rider can get it to hook up and I would be interested to see how that race would turn out. A. you said a DS against a stock 250r. You didn't mention that he had an aftermarket rev limiter. Big difference.

Now, with that in mind, I'm certainly not trying to start a "cyber-fight". I don't have time for that. Just that your blanket statement simply protrayed that a DS would smoke a 250R. Not going to happen stock vs. stock. With 2 good riders, it's not a contest.
Top speed....not even close.

Now, modded vs. modded in a short drag. I can see that. I always have trouble getting my 250r to hook up, especially in a 66 yard drag race.

I'm not smoking anything; matter of fact I've been cigarette free for 6 days now, and you're beginning to get on my final nerve with your misconstrued blanket statements. Please elaborate if you're going to portray something as uninformed as your previous post.

No need to get nasty, OK? Just having a discussion, not an argument.

Best to ya.

well hey, you also said in your previous post about your bike having boyseen reeds.... and I did not mean to put down your bike in particular. I would say that a 250r having reed, and a DS haveing a rev limiter, thats about an equal mod... But in general it is kinda a pintless discussion because it is 2 different kinds of power... Course we all know that, and in a real sanctioned drag race the only time that you see them race is in eaitehr an open money, or ET class of sorts... anyway, back to the original post here... same thing pertrudes between a 350x and a 250r. It is 2 different kinds of power, a 250r would not be my bike of tchoice for trail riding, but that is all a matter of opinion. and a 350x would not be my bike of choice for flying down old fire brakes.... just depends on what you are going to do with it I reckon....

Believe me or don't, but I was racing '85s. Of course they ran away top end, but I didn't wanna smoke my cam bearings by overrevving to keep up.

a 250r will beat a DS, I have done it on pavement. the 250r will also beat a raptor, I have done it in a sand drag. the only mod I have done is a front sprocket with an exta tooth. That is the best thing I have ever done, it makes the revs take a litle longer but you get a lot more top end and control from it. I have clocked mine doing 85+ beside a 500 ninja. The R is the only atc/atv that I know that makes your cheeks start to flap in the wind because it is so fast. To the guy who wanted to compare the power, you are right, its like anything else, you have to learn how to ride it. My first time on, she scared the hell outa me and I couldnt keep the front down, now its like anything else. Must learn respect for your ride or they will hurt ya. I know.
