I have a 350X, and have been thinking of getting a 250R, but people have mentioned that a good running 250R has gobs of power that is border line uncontrollable. I know they are powerful, but are they really that uncuntrollable? I know how my 350X feels and just curious if any of you have ridden both and could give me an idea how much more power the 250R will have (if they aren't close).

Thanks,
Dean

250r is slightly quicker. The R has the typical two-stroke light switch powerband, versus the chugging power of the X. The R is far more buildable for power, but the X is more reliable. I have owned 4 250R's and 1 350X. I like the X the best, but they are hard to find around here.

I wish I had my 350X back. I have 2 friends with 86 ATC250R's and they are both looking for a 350X. One of them used to ride a X.

That is what I would have thought. After riding the 350X around, it definately has some suds, in fact if just on pavement it is difficult to not pop the front wheel in at least the first three gears if you throttle into it hard.... lotsa fun.

I have been thinking about getting a 250R as well, but am a bit concerned about the powerband, I imagine like anything it just takes practice.

I have found a few in my area for sale, but not all the time. My cousin bought one of these brand new when I was in highschool, and I wanted one soooo bad.

thanks,
Dean

The 250R is kind of uncontrollable if your not paying attention, but it dependes which on our you talking about the air or liquid cooled. The 250R I have is a liquid and its powerful, my opiion is the 250R runs best in the sand and the liquid is faster than the air. My cousin Has a 250R Air cooled and I beet him fast.

My 250R is not uncontrollable, nor is the power, but it will go skyward on you if you're not paying attention and just smiling and twisting. Although mine gets a little squirrely when I'm in 6th at the top R's. She'll start swaying around on gravel pretty well, although this may be due to the fact it's been beat to hell.
My cousin has a 350x, and I bought my 250r from him. He says he'll race me anyday, if I'm not modded.
That X can boogie too.

Either way you go, their both great machines and only a handful of riders will ride the Ancient Trike of Carnage(ATC) anymore. I doubt I'll ever sell mine. Even in the shape it's in, I still dust my buddy's DS650 in a drag. He just bought it because his Sportsman 500 was like a snail compared to my R. He thought he'd go big and get a 650 and show me who's boss. Ooops. 2002 DS6500 - $5900, 86 ATC 250R = $850, smoking his new DS on a wheeler that was made when he was 9 - Funnier than all getup!!

Default 350X vs. 250R, Does the 250R have a lot more power?

My friend has a 350x and his dad has a 250r (air cooled). They haven’t raced them yet but I’ve raced both on my Quadracer, it will run away from the 350x but the 250r could probably beat me with minor mods. So I would think a liquid cooled 250r would smoke a 350x.

I am assuming the liquid cooled 250r ATC's have the same motor as the 250r ATV's.

the R has more power and potential, and it would be best for riding in the sand and drag racing.
the X is by far a better trail bike, with gobs of torque, and is excellent for wheelies. the X's power delivery is always usable.
No disappointments with either!!!

I've raced 250Rs before on my 350x. Off the line I can pull a small lead or stay even through 3rd, but after that they're gone. Of course the guys I were racing were scrawny & weighed about 125lbs less than me.
