Default 350x vs 400ex

I gotta go with 1986atc250r on this one. As much as I love my 350x, the 400EX is faster. Time to give credit where credit is due, the 400EX is a damn good quad. I see the same thing when people talk about the muscle cars of the 60's. Every year that goes by, those cars get faster.

I have had a 350X since 86 and have 2 of them now. They are one of the best 4 srtoke engines Honda has ever made. Both of mine has pipes. They run pretty good. And the suspention is very good and I feel there is no reason to change that. I have rode with a few 400 ex and they too are very good running atv's. I have no problem running with these new atv, and can beat them most of the time. They are pretty close in power and the rider will make the difference. The weight of my 350X is a facte.

I also ride with a 250R 2 stroke 3 wheeler and I cant get close to him except for climbing hills and rough terrain. They are too fast. And the 400ex wont run with then either. The 400ex still has to past the test of time as far as holding together. The 350x has raised the bar pretty high. These two rides 350x and 400ex are real close.

i'd go with the 400ex, the 350 has less power, and less speed, the "WHIZ KID" as he might say, is right on this one

this one is for all the die-hard 350X fans-- i have had 2 of them in my life, i sold one of them by accident, it took me a few years to get another one. the one i got now i have sunk at least 3000 in it, and im still not through, my freind has a 400ex and his is very fast- faster than mine-but just a little, but what do you expect, new technology. it took at least 15 years before they could produce a4-stroke sport quad that could beat it, and you know there is nothing around as more fun to ride than a 3-wheeler. just thought i would give my 2 cents worth

Wonder what my 350x is putting out as far as horse power is concerned. Its got a real nice port, an oversized intake manifold (port matched to the head) a 39 fdr pumper carb, a really big web race cam (tried to take some compression off and move the power up in the band cause its still in the 3 wheeler chassis) A 425cc big bore kit, and a super trapp exhaust. It is not complete quite yet but i cant wait to see if its got some ***** to it! Im guessing around 45, mayby a stretch to say 50 horse?

It doesnt matter which motor puts out more hp. I have never and i said "NEVER" been beat by a 400ex on the dunes against my old 350x. Could be rider, could be weight, but i had to at least raced over 10 different 400's and I never lost. I would pull by them on hills, in the straight, and i had a better top speed on the beach. The 400's were sometimes very close depending on how beefed up they were.

If your looking for trail riding comparison the quad will win. But full on performance, the 350x takes it.

I would love to buy another one and beef the hell out of it and make it full on drag for FSW's. Wouldnt that be the greatest thing, an 1985 3 wheeler winning at FSW's.

86 250R's are faster and smarter than 84 250R's.

When I bought my 400ex back in 98 it was not faster than my buddies 350X. I am talking absolute top speed. I was a little quicker from 1st thru 5th. It did however take him about a half mile to catch me. He had about 1-2 mph more on top than me. It may have been that the sprockets had been changed before he got it. When I put a Sparks pipe, K&N filter and hi-rev cdi on it, he never caught me again. After I had CT do my 440, it is apples and oranges. He is having GT Thunder do a 450+ [I'm not sure] with a 41fcr and no airbox. I am probably in for a little payback this New Years at Glamis.
