electrical problem?
#1
I have a '83 big red 200. When it is idling the headlight is dim. As you rev it up it goes out? Also the electric start does not work, but if I hook it to a battery charger it will work. The battery is only a year old, is it bad already?

If you have a Multimeter then check the voltage on your battery first let it charge on your charger on the lowest seting for a few hours, it should than be about 12v with the light off, then turn your headlight on, if the voltage drops below 10volts and/or drops quickly then the battery is done, a good fully charged battery should last longer than 15min with the headlight on. If the battery passes this test than check the voltage with the bike running, the voltage should be around 14v at rideing RPM's if it lower than your bikes not charging the battery good and you may need a new stator.

I have been finding alot of good parts on Ebay, In the last few weeks I have got a new frontend(forks w-tripple clamps and front hub w-new brakes), a top-end kit, full gasket set, spare coil(new), and regulator for about $120 after shipping. Just keep your eyes open.
