Whats a better choice a 350X, 250R or Tri-Z
Well I've finally decided to get a second bike and its going to be an ATC. What is the better (not neccesarley faster, but better as in dependability, handling and power in the dunes? How well does the 350X do in the dunes? Im looking at a 350 x first. Stock, how well do the 350X stack up compared to the 2 strokes. I know the 250's are better for hopping up, and thats why im trying not to get one. I dont want to hop it up, but if the potential is there, I will, (not that its not for the 350X, but not as easy) Are parts hard to find for a 350X?
How close are the Tri z and the 250R? I am considering the Tri-z since its a Yami, and its basically the same colors as my 99 banshee. Gotta look good when towing dontchaknow!
Plus the 350 X and the Tri Z seem to be cheaper..
Any input will be appreciated!

You wont be disapointed with any of those machines. The R and the Tri-z have a little better suspention than the x, parts are still around for all 3 machines..Other then that all are very capable duners in their stock form..Have fun keep your feet on the pegs.. I have owned all three. I was glad to get rid of the Tri-z. Mine was an 85 and I had nothing but problems. I still have an '85 R that is being upgraded, and I am looking for a 350x (my personal favorite). The R is the fastest stock and fastest built. The 350x can be made into the ultimate sleeper. The Tri-z is the rarest and will probably get the most questions about "what is it". It was the hardest to keep together and running. Every part seemed to wear out. The 350x never gave me any problems. Great honda 4-stroke reliability. The 250r was ragged the hardest and other than engine rebuilds, it stayed together.

Both my R and my 350X are rock solid bikes. As mentioned before, the R has MUCH better componentry, suspension and more potential. Both in stock form are rock solid reliable, heck, I went for over 3 years on the plug I bought my R with (and it was used for who knows how long before that). Granted they are all old, any will likely benefit from a rebuild & the R is easier (although building a 4 stroke is no big deal either).
One other thing on the 350X - they had metal tanks, most are either rusted out or have the tabs broken off - the R's had plastic tanks.
I like both my R and X for different reasons. I always felt much more "at home" aggressively riding 350X in the trails. My R felt very comfortable on the track and just ripping around. They are both VERY different feeling bikes.
If I were you, I'd get a 350X if I were mainly riding aggressively in the trails. I'd get the R if I was riding on the track or at the dunes.
Either way, look for an '86 - that was back in the day when Honda was still making year to year improvements.
The R is much easier to kick - being a Banshee guy for so long, your right leg might not be strong enough to kick a 350X

I had a 350x since it was new. I sold it recently and i miss it every day. In the dunes i would beat 400ex's all day. The 250r's will take it in the dunes though. But the reliablilty is no comparison. That 350x never broke. We put a plastic tank on it, supertrapp exhaust slip on, and a k&n filter. That thing was a beast. I could out hill climb many other bikes. I miss it more than anything.

Roostking I had a 350X. (hence my name)
It was a fun machine... and very torquey.
Funny thing, I once posted about this and its still in the archives.
The torque of that X compaired to the Warrior's 350 was amazing to me.
(close buddy has a 01' warrior)
Anyway, being the dune guy, and the banshee lover that you are, you might like the R better.
The 350X is probably one of the most reliable bikes ever, though.

I dont know Roostking if your gonna be able to pull through with a 4 stroke even though the 350 x is a nice bike. The ATC 250R is a killer bike and it goes fast as hell. Its faster than the 350x and has the same dependability..so i dont know if you will like a 350 4 stroke after riding your 420 shee..lol...all those old honda bikes, however, are great machines just be sure to get a year 85 and up model..I had a 330 R that had the low end of a 4 stroke and would wheelie even though it had a 6 inch swing arm on it..
