There have been no posts in the last 365 days in this forum? Outlaw trails WV
I was wondering where to post my question.... I thougth expeditioins was a good area since I am going on a big ride. I am just suprised I am the 1st post in the last 365 days.
I am putting together a simple trip for myself and friends 5/11-15 at the ATV Resort in Ashland WV. My intent is to book this trip Friday with my final head count. Well after I downloaded the trail maps I started to look around and came across mention of the Outlaw trail system. These trails are used by the locals and sit between the Indian Ridge and Pinnacle System.
Now I think HF&MC are a bunch of fun and since I will be there for more than 2 days I can see where this outlaw trail would be a great thing.
Anyone been there and have any thoughts or tips.
Can I get onto the "pay" trails from the outlaw? Also on the outlaw trails is there food and fuel nearby.
Oh and if you have stayed at the ATV RESORT how do you get to the trail head.
Thanks

Check out the Wagon Wheel trails. I have never ridden them, but one of the guys in our club in Columbus Ohio rides them regularly and swears they are better HM trails. The way I understand it, the Wagon Wheel trails include the outlaw trails around Pinnacle Creek and Indian Ridge. This might give you a place to start looking for more information.

I was at HM about 3 weeks ago. The resort is about 2 miles from the trailhead, however, they may have their own trail that connects to HM.
Talking to some locals they mentioned that riding quads on the road is legal in that part of WV.
I live 3.5 hours from HM, and just bought a pass a few weeks ago. I am planning to go every couple months.
Cheers

Outlaw / Wagon Wheel / The Steps
It is all the same trail system as far as I can tell these are just areas to access them. I know that they are close to the ATV Resort I am just not sure how far. Our group just added one more so we are at 5 with the possibility of 9 guys.
This group if we take all 9 will have guys that like to stop and take pictures and look at the scenery (there is nothing wrong with that) and then there are guys more like me who want to ride hard till your arms want to fall off.
Because we are going to be there for 4 days The "off the grid" trails hold some major appeal. If some guys want to putt and others want to hit it hard it gives us some options.
Oh and thanks Timber I meant directions to the Outlaw / Wagon Wheel / The Steps area not the HF&MC.

If you plan on riding the outlaw trails you might want to carry extra fuel. There are places to eat but no fuel. The wagon wheel itself is closed but there are a few other places to get food. Last time we stayed at Hilltop escape and it's on the outlaw trails by the stairsteps. From there you can hit the road and drive down to ashland general store on the road. I think it was like 5 miles.
Here is a link to a playlist of videos from our last trip. Most of the footage was outlaw trails with a little bit of the connector trail and pinnacle creek. I have footage of Indian ridge but it was pretty boring so I didn't use it. The trail was fun to ride just nothing special for use in a video.

Nuckfutz where do you plan on riding? Ashland Resort is good if your riding Indian Ridge and you can hit the outlaw trails and pinnacle creek from that trail system. But you better book it quick cause a bunch of us were planning our trip for mid April and they had limited availability when we called and that was in December. We are staying at Riders Paradise right on the outlaw trails down by wagon wheel. They have cabins that sleep up to 9 people.

Thanks Butch450
Extra fuel is covered was looking at x2 2 gallon rotex cans. Very good tip and good info to know.
As for the Riders Paradise - went to their website
Riders Paradise "Gateway to the Trails"
and there is no contact us info or book here button. What am I missing? If you could post the number that would be great.
I am going to book on Monday currently there are 5 of us and possibly 4 more but they are going to be booking at a later date when they can figure out what they are going to do.
Keep the thoughts coming

Butch see you have the rotex fuel and storage combo. I watched this vid the other day
Too bad you rolled it at the end.
Any issues with the storage side? I was considering that combo to put medical supplies and other small loose items but thought I would be better served with double fuel since I have a soft bag for the back.
Just curious but any dust or water make it inside. I would figure dust... If you tell me clean as a whistle I may just get that combo since I would like to have a clean area for certain items and my soft pack seams just fill with dust.
