I really wouldnt eat anything close to race time. Maybe just some fruit. Eat some spaghetti the night before the race. Also drink alot of water the night before and the day of the race. Oh yeah make sure to get rid of the water before the race if you know what I mean

I've always liked having one of those protein drinks prior to a race (early in the day). Helps with the stomach cramps, butterflys, or nerves by making you feel full. Fruit is always good as well!

I always try to eat something for breakfast a bowl of cereal or something. try to eat about 3-4 hours before the race and it seems to give me plenty of energy during the race.

During the racing season I TRY to cut out all soft drinks (Coke, Pepsi ect ect). I also try to stay away from sweets and junk food. I limit my beverages to tea or water. Try to limit your red meat intake the week before the race. Eat pork chicken or fish instead. Spaghetti is the food of choice. The week before the race snack on salted peanuts and drink water. Go to the GNC store and get a jar of 100% whey protein and take one serving every night. The protein really helps with soreness. Race day, eat a good breakfast, snack on salted peanuts and water throughout the day, eat several bananas also. The salted peanuts will help your body retain the water. I drink a "Blue Thunder" sports drink about 30 to 45 minutes before my moto. "Carbo Force" is a good one also. These can be had a GNC also.

Regular exercise is a must if you want to stay at the front of the pack. High repetition lifting and mountain biking are good choices. DONT do any strenuous exercise 2-3 days before the big event. Also get a set of those spring grips fore arm exercisers to increase your grip and thumb strength. I use them while driving to work. Oops, getting a little off the subject.

I used to be so sore after a weekend of racing that I could hardly move, but it is not a problem at all with the 100% whey protein. Oh if you get the GNC whey protein, take it with milk not water, it taste MUCH better.

Motocross Action had a great article on race preparation and dieting. The emphasized substituting. Iced tea instead of pop (I gave up pop last November), pretzels instead of potato chips, salsa over guacamole, etc. Eat lots of fruits. I like strawberries because they are the tastiest. Good article (Feb. 2000)

I have all but given up pop also. After not drinking it for so long it really doesnt appeal to me now. I'd much rather have a nice cold glass of ice tea than soda. I have gotten in the habit of drinking water while at work, Then tea for supper and more water if I exercise.

Its just as easy to grab a can of COOL (from Nestee) or Brisk (from Lipton) as it is a Coke when you stop at the 7-11.

DUDE IM A TRAINER PART TIME AND A RACER...DONT LISTEN TO THAT SPAGHETTI CRAP...EAT SOLID FOOD NO CLOSER THAN 3 HOURS TIL THE RACE..I USUALLY EAT WHITE FISH OF SOME KIND, BECAUSE THE PROTEIN MAKES U STRONGER AND KEEPS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL STABLE FOR A LONGER TIME,, IT ALSO HAS ESSENTIAL FATS THAT WILL HELP U...DRINK PLENTY OF WATER, AND SPORTS DRINK AS U FEEL THIRSTY, BUT NOT TOO MUCH TO CRAMP YOURSELF...U WANT TO MAINTAIN A CONSANT LEVEL OF ENERGY, AND BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL, THE FISH DIGEST SLOWLY SO IT EVENLY RELEASES SUGAR INTO YOUR BLOOD, WHERE AS CARBS, OR SIMPLE FOODS WILL SHOOT IT UP, THAN BRING IT RITE BACK DOWN MAKING U FEEL HUNGRIER, AND TIRED...IF U HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS, HOLLER AT ME
