Default LT250r for racing

Hey guys, iam planning on an LT250r for christmas. My question is, with some work could an LT250r race and keep up with banshees/250rs? Iam not talking about professional stuff, just amateur class racing. If so what work needs to be done to it to make it race ready? I was planning on new black plastics, nerf bars, skid plates, possibly extending/widening. As far as the engine goes, iam not sure. Let me know what you think.

just gusset the frame, widen it,get good shocks, and later on if its not good enough do the motor...I'm still waiting for suzuki to produce a bike with a frame that doesnt crack easily...

I've got a sweet LT, interested? Seriously, i loved mine on an mx track, and it kept up with my brothers non-stock banshee. I usually took him out of the hole, and that's what matters on mx. I widened it, added works shocks, filter, pipe, ram valve, nerfs, bars etc. That's about it. Forget the plastics and skids, add stuff that is going to help your performance. However, nerf bars and tethers are usually requirements to race. Oh, and i did gusset the frame, too.

i raced '91 lt250r a little bit. i just didn't like the harsh ride that the front end had. they make killer FT & TT bikes because they have a great power to weight ratio, but on jumps the front suspension isn't the best. the '85-86 are down on power compared to the laters ones, and mods for them are less available. the 88-92 are the best, 91-92 had a great rear suspension but they are somewhat rare.
they all crack frames under hard use.... later models (91-92) had some factory gusseting done in the front end too.
