race cut fenders
All of the above...plus on muddy tracks, the mud doesn't pack up on the front fenders and weigh the front of the quad down. Mud weight+long race=arm pump and rider fatigue... OOHH...and another reason...I noticed that when I was racing MX, if I hit a head-wind coming off a table-top..stock fenders act like parachutes and lift the front end...

race cut fenders
So you can roost yourself...... I put mine back on after the guy who had it before me chopped my stock ones. Practical reasons are supposed to be wind(mx), and less weight from mud build-up, like others have said. I don't race mx, and don't care about mud build up on the fenders. Better the fenders than mud build up on me.
