Default tips for a begining racer?

I'm 33 yrs old. I have a son that is 14.
I am going to enter my first race pretty soon hopefully.
I have been riding tracks around my area at least once a week and keeping a good diet, and running 2 miles a day,( mon - fri ). I still need new bars and steering stem to help me with the arm pump.
some people think I'm too old to start this but I am in good shape and I love passing the dirt bike when I hit the doubles.

5150tom---DON'T LET YOUR SON STOP YOU FROM RACING. I mean dude, you are not that old. You are only what 33? Thats not bad. Anything under 40 is pretty young.

Go race man. And that stuff you are doing sounds nice that you do all that. I need to start running. I was thinking about one morning running to my freinds house about 7 miles away, but thats kida far. But sounds like you are doing great to me!

5150tom and to all who want to try. I'm 37 and rode my first quad in '02, started racing it in '03 "utility class", www.koontzadventures.com, came first in class in the finals for the year. I'm totally hooked and am going to race gncc starting with the first race in PA. I'd like to see more utility racers join koontz's series and all classes for that matter. good pratice for gncc. go for it your only as old as you act , i like to think!

Tips for a beginning MX racer:

1) Good health insurance
2) If out of school, a job with disability coverage
3) Enough money to buy 3 of everything including the quad
4) Speed costs money, how fast can you afford
5) Don't ride over your head, wrecks cost money
6) Don't ride over your head, wrecks hurt
7) Don't ride over your head, speed will come
8) If you see me at a MX track, you better run:-)

I'm 38 and started ATV MX last year. Got some lumps and learned a lot, going back at it this Spring for more lumps and learning. Till the day I die, I'm going to be racing. Even if it's wheelchair races at the old folks home, I'm hooked on the adrenaline hit. You are never too old, too rich, too thin, or too good looking.
