Gear oil for Banshees
#1
I just read the following on the Toomey web site.
After installing our clutch kit fill the transmission with 1500cc of Castrol GTX 20150 or some such similar oil. It has been our experience that using light gear oils such as Bel-Ray 80 wt. has a detrimental effect on gear life, and therefore, we strongly advise against using these light oils.
Has anyone else had the same experience? What kind of gear oil is the safest?

I only use Klotz products. Not 1 blown motor or bad clutch all year. I race the GNC's So you know I put some hard miles on it. I use R-50 2 cycle oil and Technoplate tranny oil. I know people who use motor oil and trans fluid mixture. They replace the oil every moto because it brakes down real fast.

80 weight gear oil is not light. 80 weight is a very thich oil and this is why it is used for some manual transmissions in auto's and for the rearend oil of auto's. If you meant 20150 Castrol to mean 20w50 then that is a lot thinner than 80 weight gear oil. I have always used 10w40 Yamalube in my Banshee with no problems.

I'm a huge Fan on synthetic oils I run 10W40 in the cooler months 20W50 in the warmer.I use Honda oil in all my machines engines and transmitions, including my street bike I have 60,000 km on my bike and twice that many on my toys,Not one tranny Problem since. ONE clutch replacement last month on a 90 Blaster ,thats ten years of worry free riding ,and it still shifts just like new.I'm amazed.....hardlydangerous1@yahoo.com

What's your opinon on ATF in quad trannys? We've all heard of people who do it. I've talked with engine builders who say it wears excellent and I've ridden a 250R with it and it shifts nice too. I've heard the speculation, but if anyone has real info on it, I'd really like to hear it.
Thanks
