My first race is coming up in MX and Hare scrambles on a 400EX and could GREATLY use any tips i.e. setup, jumping, riding advice, anything. I have 12 years sprint car experience, so I know to hold my line until I'm fast enough to compete or basic rules like this. However, I am a beginner at this and could use some advice. I wasn't real impressed with the Denton racing video. Thanks for your help. Nick

LISTEN TO THE ABOVE PERSON. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GET BETTER, YOU ALSO NEED TO PUSH YOUR ABILITY A LITTLE FURTHER EVERY TIME YOU RIDE. HOWEVER, DON'T OVER DO IT YOU MIGHT GET HURT. GIVE IT SOME TIME AND YOU'LL HAVE A TROPHY. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Just go out and ride around as fast you can safley go and still have fun. All of the jumping and setup will come to you, in time. I attended the California Superbike School, many years ago, and still remember one of the best pieces of advice they gave us. All the talikg, and bench racing in the world, doesn't equal one second of track time. Just go out, get on the track, watch the other guys, and have fun.

on your first race walk the track and go thru it and see if you like it and find out what gear you want to be in and where you want to be on your first heat follow someone that is a little better than you and once you pass him find the next guy and just study the guy that seems to be the best and follow his lines and ask around about set up all tracks require a differant set up so get some advice and some seat and track time before you plan on winning that is what I did and I consider myself one of the best in my area

I agree with all of the above posts. But don't go out expecting to win because you will end up getting dissapointed, instead go out wanting and craving to win that will make you want to try harder and push yourself untill you are the best you can be. You probably already know that from your Sprint Car experiance. I walk the track before every race. You can learn soooooo much.

Adams44,
As far as racing Harescrambles go, the key to doing well in these and XC racing is consistancy. As long as you make all the hills and make all the turns, and ride at a fairly constant pace you can do fairly well.

Thanks for the help guys. Third overall in MX, but more importantly I had just as much fun in practice as in the main and setup does come to you. Harescrambles seems like I should ride at 80 to 90%, because they had to drag my *** off the quad afterwards. Thanks for the help. Turf tamers bite pretty good, going to have to groove a little! Actually I think practice is always more fun unless you are leading a race, that is just one of the best feelings in the world.
