I am trying to get replacement Laeger ball joints. They are on back order. Rumor has it that it is really a tie rod end off of a Volkswagen car. Has anyone heard this and if someone knows the model, year or even the Volkswagen part number, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I recently had an experience with a broken ball joint also. I have burgard arms for my 400ex and the are designed exactly like the laeger ones and they use the same ball joints. If you go to your local auto parts store ex. (Napa) and ask for a
right hand outer tie rod for a 1970 vw beetle this will be your replacement Ball Joint.
Make sure it is the right hand side because if you get the left hand side the threads are reversed and will not allow you to screw the joint in. I found that out the hard way.
hope this helps.

Thank you for finally letting me in on the secret. I really appreciate it. So do you like your Burgard a-arms? I am thinking about getting +2 Burgards this winter. Thanks again.

The burgard a-arms are working great. Like I said
before there are basicly the same as laegers only
less money. I am running 2+ on my 400ex and they
are working great. MY buddy has an 88 250r and
is running the same arms. his 2+ 1+ forward which
is recommended for the R but not for the EX.
Another thing about these burgards the guy who makes them will warranty them if there is a problem. what more could you want.
I have found out that even if there is a product that is slightly better out there Getting good customer service and somebody willing to listen
when you are having troublewith a product Is much better. You can get the a-arms and a bunch of other stuff from KandK ATV. www.kandkatv.com
Oh yeah if you go 2+ you are going to have to get
new shocks if they are stock or revalve the ones you got. Due to the incresed leverage.

Hey, thanks for the info. I have also had good luck with K and K atv. About the shock revalving, I am running triple-rate works shocks with reservoirs on my '86 250r. I was hoping that I could just adjust them a little stiffer, what do you think about this?

I am no shock expert but with and increase of two inches on the a-arms that may not seem like alot
but when your talking about leverage it is.
You wont be able to compensate without revalving.
i guess the best thing to do is try it out.
If you decide to revalve send them to TCS and have them redo the shocks for you. You wont be disappointed.
