Default 400ex race mods

Hondarider, we are talking about actually racing in a organized event, not down a road or in open area's. I've been riding and racing for 16+ years, so Im not new to the sport either and I've picked up a thing or two. Last summer I raced on a Z400 with nothing but a pipe, filter, and re-jet against mostly 450's in a MX race at Haspin Acres and took 1st place on an inferior quad. It really doesn't make all that much differance what you are on (within reason) unless you are running in a Pro class or equal.

Spit, just go out and have fun. You will be fine, the best thing to do is relax and hold your line. After you get some experience racing then worry about making your quad faster. The mods you have already listed will be plenty. Let us know how it goes!

motox26 had the most intelligent post here. After reading that I would agree 100%.

he is right! rider is everything! but the gearing on the 400ex is a lil high!go one tooth down on the front sprocket and it will make all the diffrence in the world! you wont have all the top speed but you dont need it on a track any ways!

Honda400rider,I don't know what mods you had on your 400ex but I can assure you a 416 with all the goodies definitely has some"GUTS".There are a few out there that can attest that a properly tuned 416 can hang. That aside if I was going to buy a new ATV it would be one of the new water cooled 450's.Depending on where your located it might be worth the drive to Abernathys,$5694. for a new 450r(06),$6294.YFZ 450 just depends on how much you can spend.Good luck with whatever you do spit.

well i have a bone stock 01' 400ex with 19" mxr4's on the rear and 20" on the front
ohlins front shocks and thats all. on the tracks here in my area the guys who ride with us
who own a dvx/kfx/z400 can only keep up with me on a straight away its like they lack the
low end of the ex. you really have to stay in the gas on them. personally i hate them
they give me no confidense on the track, but it fly's on top en the ex can't hang with that...

and as far as gearing for MX i weigh 300lbs and have found no limitations to the stock
gearing.. you just have to stay in the gas...lol speed is everything

5th gear pinned/..lol
