I'm about to start modding up my 250R for MX and was wondering if I really needed beadlocks. Ive saw some people run them front and rear, or with .190 fronts and beadlock rears, or with both front and rear .190s. Which would be best for me? I'm sort of on a limited budget.

 

Well, there is no rule saying that you have to run beadlocks. Most people run them, because with the power of a 250r, it is EASY to run the tires off the beads. I had a 300ex with turf-tamers on .190's and never needed beadlocks, but then I put those wheels and tires on my R and the first time I rode with them, broke the bead and my tire came off the wheel. So, I strongly recommend them if you plan to ride aggressive and have the money. If you are on a real limited budget, a set of .190's will work without the beadlocks, but if you get a flat, dont ride on it, even for a lap or so.
If you can afford beadlocks howerver, I would get them, you can get them for fairly decent price used if you can find a set. Good luck

If you are a serious racer then yes. If you can slide the back end out and have ever landed a little side ways off a jump then buy them.

 

Shift, where are you planning on racing in AR?? You ought to come race at Ascot Park...it is a pretty cool track, and we usually have quite a few riders!

I'll be racing at Thacker MX park alot. I'll also be racing at Thayer Mo, Dyersburg TN, Blodgett Mo, and maybe Atwood TN.

 

Where exactly is Thayer?? We are looking to race in MO this next year. I need all the practice I can get b4 nationals!!

 

I have no idea where it is. I think it's on A highway. I dont know because usually I sleep on the way to the tracks because its early morning and I sleep on the way back because I'm tired from riding.

 

I would strongly reccomend a rim that is stronger than the .190's. Regular rims will get flat spots from jumping, the reinforcing rings in beadlocks prevent this. To get the strength of beadlocks without the cost have a set of reinforcing rings welded into the .190's or get a set of Douglas Ultimates. I think ITP makes a wheel called the Race Wheel that has rings already installed.
