I will be entering an mx race on the 17th, what can I do cheaply, and easily to my quad, like will flipping the rear shock linkage help? I have nerf bars and yfz 450 front shocks coming for it.

That might not be a bad idea.

Considering that they are mandatory,,ya, not a bad idea.

When you get a tether, you do NOT hook it into the coil lead. It'll blow the fuse. You need to call a dealer/shop and find out which wire is the "trip wire". That'll save you a fuse and some aggrivation.

All I can say is good luck. There isn't much in the way of cheap or easy to get your Raptor ready for motocross.

If you look at my photo page, you will see the extensive list of mods and the photos of my quad detailing all the things I have had to do to make my Raptor competetive on the mx tracks. And it is very competitive now, but it took a long way to get there.

i have proved several times a raptor can be competitive in mx races. the suspension is a must. another good cheap mod that helps a ton is dropping a tooth in the front sprocket. and just remember these things are a beast in the air. Whatever you do DO NOT flip the rear linkage, i made that mistake and ended up sitting on the sidelines for a month with a dislocated shoulder and one tore up machine. another cheap upgrade is some wheel spacers for the rear, this will help quite a bit.

I agree that cheap is the way to go. I don't know who mentioned the linkage thing but I'd recommend never doing anything that dude says.
With all due respect, your (or any) rappy is not a race machine. Like the one fellow said, it took alot to get it competitive. I've not seen one rappy at the nationals. I'm sure there have been a few tho.
With that being said, go race the rappy and see if racing is in your future. If so a new 450 class racer will be what you want. They simply are a better racer out of the box comparitively (that means less $ spent).....
Again, no disrespect intended for the rappy. It's a fine machine for most all riding.

I sincerely hope you have fun, are safe, and do well.

i was coming off of a big triple and when i landed hard on the rear the linkage broke in two. all i remember is hitting the jump hard and waking up to the paramedics. i Agree with lt 80 if you want to race get rid of the rappy and get a 450. i love my raptor but i have sidelined it for mx. snowcross is the only kind of racing shes gonna see any more. My z 400 is much better for mx. maybe even consider a 400 of some sort. i can keep up to alot of 450 s on mine
