For all you CWIRA'ers That can't get enough ice racing, We are having an ice race at Fortune Bay Resort & Casino in Tower, MN on January 20th, (SATURDAY). I know that Carl Daniels of Cadot, WI and a couple of his buddies are making the trek up on Friday, and head back south after the races on Saturday. This will be a GREAT show, with Fortune Bay kicking in extra contingencies. (free room stays, merchandise, etc.) For more info, e-mail me at pjniska@uslink.net, or call 218-666-3188 and leave message.
The majority of our racers are from MN & northern WI. We are running the following classes of quads:
studded:
250 2-stroke
0-350 4 stroke
400 & up 4 stroke
open pro
unstudded:
2wd - same as above,
4x4 utility, including up to 350cc Polaris
4x4 open.

Any racer who pre-registers by the 14th will be eligible for a free 1-nite stay at Fortune Bay, and a separate prize of $50.

Stroker,
I was just thinking of the guys from Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and that area that normally run CWIRA. Even Marshfield is about 5+ hours from Tower... Being the race is Saturday, maybe some die-hards would consider it. I am just trying to get this info out to as many ice-racers as possible, and I know the CWIRA gets a lot of racers... If you would even mention it at your races, it would help out the whole sport of ice racing, by getting it to grow...

The CWIRA, the NMRA out of Duluth, and Buzz at the DTRA should consider pushing for a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP of ice racing for quads, similar to the bikes at Eagle River. If everyone pushed for it, just imagine the turnout for "THE BIG ONE"...

Keep that in mind for next year. I'm sure Fortune Bay would love to host a 2-3 day event, first or second weekend of March, (The ice will still be good up here!) and I'm pretty sure they could kick in cash for prizes.

just a thought!

iceracer,
Not a bad idea, maybe we can work out something like that next season, I got a few events to promote myself this season. The Feb 18th Race in Antigo,WI is being heavily promoted this year (advertisements in dirtwheels, etc) and is definitely the fastest ice track anywhere. It's a banked 1/2 mile oval and the bikes get clocked right around 100mph in the back straight away. Open Quads running close to 90mph.

You can go to our club site at www.cwira.com and post a message on the message board about your race this year. That would be the best way to start spreading the word, also I will mention it to some of the guys at the first weekend of racing.

There is also the SWIRA in WI. There site is www.homestead.com/swira > You can post a message there also.

I was wondering if you had any other information on the MN ice racing orginizations and where people can get a schedule. Last I heard there were only a few events a winter and not a full 8 or 9 race season like we have here in WI.

Also, Feb 3rd and 4th is the AMA Amatuer National Ice Racing Championships in Eagle River, WI. They do have quad classes here and many of my friends ran that race last year. They had studded and rubber quad classes but I heard the turn out wasn't very good. This may be due to a lot of ice racers not liking the AMA unsharpened studs and full front fenders rule. If we would promote a HUGE National event we would have to come up with realistic rules that everybody would like.

Last item on my list, The WI STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS is Feb 25th on Lake Dexter in Dexterville,WI. This event ususally draws a lot of racers from southern WI as well as quite a few MN racers.

The Ice races Jan 5th and 6th in Neillsville, WI are canceled due to unsafe ice conditions. My understanding is the races on Jan 6th scheduled in Gleason,WI as part of there small organization is still on. Races start at noon, be there by 10 is all I know. I do not know how to get ahold of them for info. Just something I read on our ice racing message board.

Is there any Ds 650 running with you guys? I'm going to race with the SWIRA starting next weekend. They start today, but I'm not quite set up yet. Just wondering about any mods or lowering set-ups.
