Newbie question here!

Just bought a used 2006 YFZ 450. I need to install a kill Teather so I can practice at a local track. I found these:

I am leaning towards the Pro Armor for $24.

Am I correct in thinking this will go in series with the stock handle bar kill switch?

Or is it the Key hot wire?

Do these switches come with wiring diagrams?

 

There are a set of wires coming out of the left side of your case and go to the coil. Follow them up under the plastic and take the electrical tape loose and look for the white wire I think. The instructions should say, but if not find the hot wire and connect the tether hot wire to that and then the ground to the bike. When the tether is pulled it breaks the system and kills the engine. You don't want to put it to the stop switch on the handle bars.

 

If I understand correctly, this method will kill the "spark", thus the engine.

How does the kill switch on the left handle bar differ from this? I thought it killed the spark also?

Bear in mind I do not have a detailed wiring diagram yet. Factory Manual on the way!!

 

I suppose using a wire at the handle bar stop switch will do the same. I was told to attach it as I explained and the wiring diagram that I used showed the same.

Well, the Pro Armor directions leave alot to be desired, so I looked around the net some more and found this:

YFZ450 Tether Switch Installation

While common sense would tell you to install the kill switch just like the factory installed the stock handle bar kill switch this is NOT the way to install a kill switch on the YFZ450. You will first need to remove your plastics to gain access to the proper wires for installation. Located by the oil filler hole on the cases you will see a bundle of wires, follow these wires upward. The wires will split into pairs, continue to follow the red (maybe pink) and white pair.

These wires will lead you to a plug. Using a small saddle type wire connector, take the long wire from the Tether Switch and connect/splice it to the white wire just after the plug connection. The other wire coming from your Kill switch (the short one) goes to any available frame bolt on the bike and is your ground wire.
Your tether is now wired properly; mount it securely to your handlebars and you're ready to ride.

Or I also found a couple of "install kits" made for the YFZ. You still need to find the plug with the Red & White wires, but if your not good with splicing, this is a way to go.
