I think its called cross country but do you think my recon would do good in one of those races were you go through the woods and mud and stuff like that against 4x4, 250r ,and all sort or not.

Hate to bust your bubble, but would a little Ford Ranger do any good up against a Ford F-150 in pulling and carring weigh? There is not enough space here to say how bad that your Recon would get beat. You would be trying to make the Recon do something that it is not made for or could do very often.

If you did decide to race croos country or harescramble you would not be racing against 250r's or 400ex's. There are about 12 different classes from beginers to 4x4's and all the way to the pro's. I have many friends who race xc and they love it. In some ways it is more exciting than motocross. Super250, you have nothing to loose by trying this once.

Hate to burst your bubble TPRENDER but you have no idea what you are talking about, why would you even post something like that.

Actually, very few series have anywhere near 12 classes. Most classes are open and based on skill.

It all depends on the number of riders. Even in the MHSC, one of the largest series in the country (over 100 ATVs per race), we don't usually have a utility class (even in a utility class a Recon would get spanked). So the best he could typically do is ride Beginner - in which he'd be riding with 250R's, Raptor's, Banshee's, 400EX's, LT250R's, 300EX's and just about anything else a person can think of.

Besides, TPrender is has probably forgotten more races than you and I combined have attended. I believe he's well qualified to make the statments he made.

I am not attacking tprender or his knowledge but why try to discourage someone new to the sport of racing. I didnt like his response to the original post and I still think that super should give it a shot no matter what he rides.

He made some realistic obeservations.

I encourage anyone that even thinks they might want to try racing to give it a shot, but he specifically asked if his machine would be competitive - it would not, and that's what Tprender expressed.

There are 16 classes in GNCC races 3 for utility, stock, mod, and unlimeted.Alot of the quads are 4x4 but I think you should try it there are alot of races close to you.And if you like it think about another quad.Ride smart and finish that means alot just being able to finish will put you ahead of alot of people who break down.Hope to see you at a race, for a schedule and list of classes go to gnccracing.com

I think a Recon would do excelent in crooss country. Choose the smallest class and move up. Go ahead and race it like it is but u will probly want bigger tires for the trails, mud and rocks, not to mention the deep ruts. I would use 22'' tires all around but not use stock because after a couple racers u will have a flat. Aim for 6 ply.
good luck!

Super250,
A lot depends on your ability, not the machine. I ran my Warrior in 2 GNCC's last year. I ran in the novice class and was by no means a threat to anybody. But, man did I have a ball! My best advice to you would be condition, condition, and condition. In my first race, I had such arm pump after twenty minutes that I basically had to stop to rest my hands. Everybody has their own goals. I recommend not setting them too high at first and concentrating on finishing the race. Don't be discouraged by the machine you have, I would venture to guess that you would have easily finished ahead of me. Give it a try, you never no what may happen. I met a kid at Brownsville last year. It was his second race and he finished in the last trophy spot in novice. You will meet a lot of great people and have a lot of fun. Good luck!!
