Default Racing Question

Hey everyone!

So I am looking into doing some racing. I was going to do some cross country/enduro style racing. The races I've been interested in are similar. They have a long stretch of trails and a small track part. There are some obstacles on some races.

So I was wondering what type of mods would benefit the most in this type of racing. I know setting up a rig for the trail and a rig for the track are basically opposite. I currently have a Honda 2007 Trx 400ex with nerf bars and a front bumper. I am an experienced rider but don't want to spend a giant amount of money. I was thinking a slip on exhaust, UNI air filter, and jet the carb to start. Would that help a lot?

I've never raced but heard others say the first thing you should put money into for cross country is suspension. Hopefully some experts will give you better advice.
