My son has an lt80 and wed like to get him into racing. We live in Northern Illinois, I cant seem to find anywhere to get information on staring him out. Id like to know what hell need (nerf bars etc.) where can we go to race (Ill be checking out redbud Michigan) and anything else that would be helpful.

I can tell you right now that there is no track in MI , D-14 sanctioned, that had youth quads. In D-14 you have to be 16 or older. I dont know why exactly, I think it is because of track insurance. I am checking into it and trying to get them to run 80 and 50 quad classes. I figure, the bikes have it, why cant the quads? As far a racing those quads, I think all that is really needed is a tether kill switch. I dont think they make nerf bars for quads that small. I may be wrong though. Good luck with your sons riding adventures. Both of you will have a blast. This is one of the few true family sports.

Youth ATV racing is becomming very popular. Here in CA, there are a number of tracks in the North and South that offer 50 and 80-90cc classes. Some follow AMA rules and others don't. That means, under AMA, your kid must be 12 or older to ride 80cc and must be 5 or 6 to ride 50cc. AMA also requires all personal safety equipment plus a kill cord and nerf bars. AC Racing in California (on the net) sells Nerfs for the LT80 for about $100. The also sell superior tires and wheels. Sprocket Specialists stocks all the gears for the 80 and in the back of the ATV mags, you will find the front a-arm extenders.
Try a search on Yahoo using the term "gncc" and you may find some help on the issue in your area.
Good luck and keep the kid safe.
