Hi guys,

I am planning to buy used 87 LT500R for $2300
Do you think I should buy it?
Are they any good? What is the most common problems? I know the speed and the power but I don't care.
Right now I have 99 Wolverine. I want something faster than my buddy's 400ex. I am tried of eating his dust. :-)

Thanks for your time

I have a used buyers guide with the Lt 500R in it and here is some pointers they say to do. "only buy one in very excellent shape.Main bearings and seals can go out at any time.Aso keep a eye out on the rear base bolt. The right side tends to crack more than the left.Don't buy one with the cylinder welded up.On the 87 500 check for cracks traveling upwards on the swingarm at the front chainguide bolt. The Quadzilla has a history of 2nd and 4th gear going out.this can be predicted if you ride the LT hard and it jumps back into netral, this may indicate tranny work is needed."

Hope this helps. This guide also has pointers for used TRX250R,LT250Rand Tecate4.

I guess you really wanna beat him. I think that the 87's were prone to blowing head gaskets, that is fixable. Probably look at all the areas of the suspension for cracks.

I have an 87 QUADZILLA and have a -2 swing arm on the bike. The stock swing arms on the 250 and 500 tend to crack right at the piviot bolt. I also heard of people blowing head gaskets. I have never had this problem. Every so often i re torque the head bolts and cylinder bolts. It is a bike bike i sometimes have problems riding through the trails . Well the +2 eliminator axle doe shelp much either. I did however have the trans problem when i first had my bike back from a ground up rebuilt except for the motor. When i had the trans work done i also had bronse bushings put in the crank. Go to this site to see pics of my Quadzilla and drop me a line if you have any more questions.
