To me it sounds like a YFZ 450 will do you very well. You also do the family thing and the V-Force does that much better than the YFZ. It really depends how much of the family thing you will be doing or want to do in the future. Its more difficult to putt putt around the house with the family on the YFZ than the V-Force. You could buy the YFZ now, get the V-Force in a couple of years (or some other quad) use that for the family outings. The wife would drive the V, you would drive the YFZ.
The YFZ fits your friends quads best and the type of riding you want to do. Although the V-Force is fun and has a ton of HP potential, much more than the YFZ. But it also weighs more too.
You need to factor in all the things you want to do and see what is more important, the family rides (the V) or the friend rides (YFZ).
Good luck.

Rest of his life, nah. The V-Force with the proper clutching, elka shocks, ignition and dual exhuast will dust the YFZ in the power department even with the extra weight. But the YFZ is a way better racer. Don't say forever, cause there is always a faster production quad around the corner.
Just razing you for the most part, the YFZ is a great quad. Got any videos? Sound clips of the exhuast?
