Default Honda 400ex or Yamaha Warrior

k, I was wondering wich would be best, a used honda 400ex or a used yamaha warrior.
Witch has more torqe?
Top speed?
Quality?
Reliablility?
Handling?

Also, when I get one, I was thinking about taking off the muffler so it is louder. But, that wreckes the engin dousn't it?

Or is there a different quad with around the same power that could also be good, (400cc range) that is a 1995-2000.
I am really thinkin about the 400ex, but i hear some bad things about them on this site, like them loosing to blasters, and 4x4 quads beating them. I just read on a post that a stock 400ex goes about 65-70mph?? Is that true, if it is thats prity mint. And the 400ex's go wheeles really easy, and it gets enoying when people try to race, it will just pop up? Is that true?

well a blaster with toomey exhaust and maybe a few other minor mods would beat a 400ex cause a blaster does about 58mph stock and toomey gives a nice 6-8hp with there header/silencer/air vent. And yeah they do wheelies VERY VERY VERY easy. and more ridable then revvin on a 2-stroke so u dont hit the powerband and flip

Overall i would take a blaster but if your over 6" or plan to be i would go with warrior

I'm with the bull dog above .. yammawarrior ..

It depends on what you want .. for all of the criteria you listed in your first post except reliability and quality .. I don't think those are really easy to nail down .. the 400EX has more torque, speed and better handling than the Warrior, but quality and reliability ?? i wouldn't say that one is better than the other .. Only draw back on the EX is it doens't have reverse, which the Warrior does have.

I see plenty of old EX's and Warriors so I don't think reliability will be a problem. Both engines are air cooled with low compression so even if you had to put a new top end on them the rebuild kits are under $200. The Warrior has reverse and it has balloon tires in the rear so if you find one with stock tires it will be tippy compared to a quad with sport style tires. The 400ex is lighter and wider with a lower seat hieght, more hp and much better suspension. I had reverse on my first quad and it was way more of a conveniance than a necessity. If you like to rip around and jump, hillclimb and slide around corners I would have to say the EX. It's not a brand loyalty thing either since my EX is going to be sold for a YFZ 450 next year.

Actually the Warrior is a fine hill climber too .. the front heaviness makes it real stable in the hill climbs .. and has lots of low end torque .. the stock tires just plain suck. If you buy a warrior your first purchase should be a new set of rear rubber .. the fronts are ok .. I've got razr's on mine. BIG improvement

umm...warrior can hillclimb very well and is safer since the front end is heavy........warriors slide around corners great! or at least i do get a wide dura blue axle and razr rears and u slide awesome(thats what i got on mine)but if u want to race mx u gotta get a 400ex but for drags and xc the warrior is fine

400ex in every way. it will tear that warrior up in every situation imaginable. it will kill it in a drag, on a track, on the trails period..
