i think before you let your sister ride it you should ride it yourself, lol. thatll help you determine whether she can handle it or not. i would probably say dont let her, at least not til shes a little older, or, let her ride it just a little bit once in a while until she gets better at riding. also, if she can barely ride an auto clutch big bear, i would probably not let her try a manual for a while. in fact, if you get something a little less sporty and less powerful (if you have access to someone elses bike, like a grandparent or if you dad gets something) let her ride that and then she can ride the ex later when shes more experienced.
rider 1169 is right though, if you want a good deal for the money, dont go with the 400ex right before honda is replacing it (or whatever they plan to do with it when they come out with their 450) its a good bike, but its outdated and not as good handling or as quick as the new kfx/ltz's. but if youre talking about a used bike which i assume you are, the 400ex would be a lot easier to find cause its been made for a lot longer. your choice.

also, about the reverse thing. reverse is nice, and its a must on a sport ute bike, but on a lightweight sport like the 400ex, its not a problem, just walk around back and lift it up by the grab bar, its really easy. just dont hurt your back doin it. you really dont realize how little you need reverse when you have it. when u dont have it you can do 99% of the things you do when you have it, it just takes a little human effort instead of engine effort.

Here it is Black and White, this is what i did buy a 400 ex, You can get one for 1000.00 to 2000.00 cheaper especially 02 and 03, with the money you save put an exhaust, jet kit,uni air cleaner, total cost 300.00 you will be just as fast as stock z400 maybe a little faster I top out at 73 MPH, bottom end is also better for trail riding, Yes i don't have reverse, but i am not lazy and to tell the truth i have never really needed it and I ride almost every weekend on MX track and trails, Also you will be getting a product that is very reliable, The Z400 is relatively new and has had some frame problems which they will fix at some point, With the money you save you can have a very nice quad hell you can but some elke shocks if you want, Me personally If you are set on the Z400 then just spend the extra money and get the YZF 450 which is twice the quad the suzuki could ever be, And i do let me 10 year old boy ride mine but he has been riding since he was 5, so he has no problem understanding that you must be careful and don't abuse the power, What ever you decide have fun and RideAllDay!!!
