Default Vinson500 vs Sportsman500HO

I just sold my Polaris Sportsman 400. It was way to heavy for a 400 automatic. Now i am thinking about the Vinson or the Sportsman 500 HO. I compared the 2 and found that while the Sportsman has Independent. Rear Suspension, the Vinson is about 75 lbs lighter. Can anyone give me any advice on either ATV.

I have had two 500HOs and both have been excellent. The power is awesome and it has alot more than the 400 Sportsman. The advantage to the Sportsman is IRS, disc brakes and a locking front end (limited slip on the Suzuki). My brother and father also have 500 HOs (2001 and 2002) and they have been very happy with the machines.

I highly recomend the 500HO. The power difference from the 400 is HUGE.

Yea, everytime i consider the Polaris or any other 500, the styling and agileness of the Vinson attracts me back to it all the time. But, the Sportsman 400 was my first and I dont want to make another bad decision on my next purchase.

I ride with many people who have many different quads which most happen to in the 600+ class and I am happy to say I can go anywhere they do with my Vinson. On my last ride there was one Sportsman 500 HO and two Sportsman 700s. My Vinson kept up on the slow knarly stuff and did even better when racing on the tight trails at high speeds. I'm sure you will be happy with either machine but if you are looking for something sporty (fun to ride) the Vinion is probably your best bet and you can't beat the price.

If you're one to belive all the magazines and their review/shootouts then the Vinson has been king of the 500cc class ATVs for a few years running.

Go with the Polaris. I just bought my 2004.5 Sportsman 500 50th annv edition and I love it. The independent rear suspension is great!
