Looking for a mini quad
#1
I'm looking to buy my daughter a new quad. She rides an old school Yamaha Moto4 80, no suspension, balloon tires. I've looked at an Eton Viper 90, Xtreme 90, Raptor 80 (Moto4 with suspension). I know the Japanese bikes run forever, not sure about the other makes, Dinli, Kasea, Kymco, etc. She may eventually want to race.

Came accross this the other day. Pretty sure it's an identical motor to the eton and madami/sundiro. VERY similiar to the Polaris, Alpha Sports and Xtreme. Many parts are interchangeable. Can't beat the price with those features. Wish it had been available when I was buying. However, being in California you may want to consider a 4-stroke.

Thanks for the heads up. Any 4 stroke ideas? The Trx90, Raptor80, LT90 are so expensive. What did you end up buying. I just want something fast enough until she turns old enough to graduate to my wife's blaster.

I bought an off brand called Maxfine. The company is no longer in business, but I've seen the same quad labeled as the QJ, MZ, Cammando and Hornet. QJ is the company that makes it. It's a 2 stroke Polaris clone and has been a good machine but I'll be honest....I like it better after a few mods. Still have a lot less money in it than if I had bought a name brand. And I think it is now a better machine than what you can buy off the floor. Faster anyway.
Problem with no-name 4 strokes is you just can't do much with them. The performance parts just aren't available at this time. What you buy is what you get. If you ride a lot in mud or water, I would suggest a semi-auto. The cvt's allow water and grime to seap though a vent and you could also have problems with the stator. Shaft drive would be a plus too. For everything else, I think kids have an easier time with the cvt's (Polaris style tranny).
I would check out the "other atv" section for reviews on various quads. The Kazuma/Redcat has a 110 or Kymco and DRR have a 90 that you may want to consider depending on the age and size of your child? I would stay away from the Yamaha, simply because I don't like the front end. I want an IFS. And the LT80 is 2-stroke.
Good luck!
