Im getting a new machine, i was really planning on getting the raptor but i saw the new changes for the suzuki this year and i hear its a good machine so i wasnt sure which one to choose, any help will be appreciated.

I've ridden both and own a '03 Z400. The raptor was a '03 also. The difference I felt betweent the 2 was the Z had power through the entire power band. The raptor felt like it didn't have good mid range. I can be in any gear on the Z, give it fuel and it will pull away. On the raptor it wouldn't. It could of been the raptor I was on. But, it was pure stock and not ridden all that much. Buddy rode the same two quads and bought 2 '03 Z400[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I suggest riding both if you can[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] You will get different opinions here. Also, do a search. I'm sure you will find plenty of reading[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

What will you be using it for, trails,open fields or the track? I just picked up my 05 Z400 and all I can say is this bike rocks. I like the Raptors as they are real torquey but the beefed up suspension and frame, bigger carb, and handleing in the Z400 won out. They are both great machines it's just what you're going to use it for. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

 

I really think the Z is by far the best all-around machine out there! It is not the fastest machine, but it is fast (the engine hops up very well) and is proving to be very reliable. It handles extremely well and has a light feel.

I don't like the Raptor much, at least not in stock form. It carries its weight high in the frame, and is pathetically narrow. This all combines to make it tippy. I would have to spend thousands of $$$$ on a wider axle, a- arms, suspension.........not worth the trouble.
