ATV development was stagnant during the 90's! This was due to political pressure from the government, related to safety issues. Things didn't take off again until the Honda 400EX came out in 99. If you are on a budget I would start by looking for a used 400EX, it is easily faster than a Warrior, and is a great handling machine.

Stick with the 400ex or a Z400. Both are very dependable and easly upgradeable to match your skills. Both can be had used in the <3000 dollar range if you spent a few weeks looking for a deal. I've had both and the only thing I like better about the Z400 is the reverse. Other than that they are both great. The Z400 is water cooled but I never had a problem with the 400EX overheating so that didn't make much difference. Be safe, have fun and ride every chance you get.
