I am looking to buy a '99 400EX. It seems like it's in good mechanical condition, and I was wondering if 120 hours is a lot, because until now, I have not ridden anything but 4x4's and they have odometers. Also, are there any inherent problems with '99 400EX's? I know since it was the first model year there might have been some problems, but is there anything I should know about? Thanks -RYAN

My brother has a Honda 300 utility quad with over 1000 hours on it, maybe 1100 by now. He doesn't ram it around and abuse it, and maintains it properly, but obviously rides it alot. The clutch isn't as smooth as it used to be, but doesn't slip yet, and the valves are due for another adjustment, but it still runs good. I would say no, 120 hours is just good and broke in if it hasn't been abused.

for a 99 i would say the is pretty good. i have a 2000(over a year old) and it probaly has about the same on it. there has been no probs. with the 400ex's nothing but quality. the only thing honda should have done was make a stronger swingarm. but unless it was jumped alot and race mx there sould be any prob

120 hours is a lot for a 99 just imagine someone taking it out 20 times in one year at 6 hours a day!!!!!!!Thats alot of riding!!!!!!I'm sure there is alot of stuff that may need to be replaced...bearings, etc....How much are you buying it for? I wouldn't spend more than $3,500 for it!

mgrigsby22 if you think riding 6 hours every 2.6 weeks is a lot, you must not get much use out of your machine. If you pay the money you may as well use the thing.

Most of the time we can buy a new model in the previous year, so that being said a '99 can be ridden in '98 however the original owner needs to maintain ANY equiptment. As always buying used equpitment = "Buyer Beware".

NO thats not a bunch of hours for a 1999. I have had my Rancher for 7 months & it has 94 hours on it.

The valves might need a little adjusting.

Take a look at the rest of the machine. Is it scratched up? Ar the tires really worn. Are there broken parts or cracked plastic. All this kind of stuff will tell you how it was ridden. Hours/miles don't mean much on a well cared for machine but 120 hours on a machine that was ridden like it was stolen is alot.

Why is the person selling it? You will never get your money back out of a machine that is a year old. The seller is going to be lucky to get 70% of his/her initial investment back. Why do they want to off-load it so early?

Look at allo fthat stuff and decide for yourself if 120 hours is a lot.......
