Default 400 ex or?

I ride a 2000 Honda Foreman at work. Most recently added Mattracks which makes for VERY heavy steering. My brother in law got his kid a trx 90, and I bought one for my boy. Built a track with Bobcat. Brother in law owns a trx 450 modded and he rides dunes. My other friend has a Raptor 660. I want to putt around with my kid, jump some jumps, and thinking 400 ex/trx for running up an down gravel roads, and maybe trails, or once in awhile riding with the two other faster bikes.

I want a sportbike because the easy steering on the 450 actually made atving fun! I enjoyed the easy handling and nimble front end.

Here is the big question, I am looking at a new 400ex, if I am going to spend that much money, should I consider a faster one yet for a few dollars more? I am pretty much settled on the ex, the Suzuki has funky corroision things going on, I am not really hot for a trx450, but I did cruise by the Yamaha site tonite looking at Raptors, and I am not sure why.

I am looking for dependable, and sportier than the Foreman, not the fastest thing on the planet. But for a thousand more you get a race bike? (I am not going racing, or riding dunes.)

Another weird thing, the area where I ride the yellow Foreman will be where I am farting around with the new bike. Priced 06 and 05 from different dealers and they are the same $. Yellow would be good because people would recognize its me, and not drive over to ask questions. But won't I take a huge hit on resale if the two bikes are in identical condition, but one is a year older? I might just get a black one, that is newer, because I might hunt a bit with it too.

I am most partial to Hondas.

Any thoughts would be great,

A.G.

The Z400 is the best all-around machine there is, and mine has been a superb machine! Hop up potential for this engine is great. Haven't the corrosion problems been solved with a change in coolant???

My 400EX has been outstanding as well. I prefer the EX over the Z for slow, tight trail riding. Prefer the Z for faster, more open trails.
