Default What Do I Want?

Hey Guys..
my brother has a 400 scrambler thats all done up it'll do around 90MPH, im on his account right now.. i've driven his four wheeler many times .. both the 250 and the 400, the 400 is fast, hes gettin old and stuff now, i was thinkin about buyin it off him but i am not a polaris type of guy, im only 16 and 160 lbs but i think i can handle a bike, my brother thinks i can handle his scrambler no problem.. im thinkin bout a 400EX .. nobody around here has them, i might go for a 2003 in the buyer flyer .. they want 4200 canadian and its got a jet kit and DG pipe .. it seems to be in amazing condition .. colours not faded or anythin, doesnt look scratched badly or anythin, and if i want to get more out of it later i can always buy more accessories to speed it up a lil, would you say this is a good bike for me? and also does anyone know how fast a stock 400EX goes ..

If you can handle that 400, you can probably handle a honda 400. it will do about 65 stock,
and is a little slower than the suzuki 400. If you pipe and jet it for your first mod, it will do
close to 70.

Um, the 400 Scrambler is a 2 stroke y'all. Built up right, it could certainly do 90mph. Heck, I bet they can get those babies over 60 hp with less than 1k invested. And anyways, yes, I think you would do well with a 400EX. They are about as reliable as you can get, and it will definately be a sportier ride than the Scrambler. One thing, don't stare so long at the shiney plastic that you neglect to really look over the frame, pivot points, shocks, brakes, driveline, etc. Plastic can be cleaned up or replaced fairly easily, and an '03 that was kept inside shouldn't be faded at all anyway. Good luck whichever way you decide to go!

It depends on what year 400 you get. the older are not near as fast as the newer ones i believe they changed the gearing around on the 05 model year. i used to have a 99 400 that i bored out to a 440 and it was awesome. the 400 is undestructable and will run forever as long as you keep oil in it.the only reason i bought a new 450 is i jump to much on the 400 and didn't want to spend that kind of money on shocks when for about the same about i sold mine and bought a new on it equaled out. It also depends on what kind of riding you do. Do you really need a quad that goes that fast?

I believe it.

My Father had a 2000 4x4 400cc 2-stroke Scrammy, bored to the max and built up to race-fuel specs by Trinity. That thing did indeed run right up to around 90mph, and believe me it was yanking your arms out of the socket the entire way. He eventually had to disconnect the front wheel drive after he destroyed it the first time he tried it, of course the engine builders told him it would never handle the power. He never hooked it back up and essentially turned it into a 2-wheel drive.

He actually took out the racing piston when he sold it so he could run it on regular gas. It was way too fast to handle it's own chassis.
