Well, it's about that time.

It is time to pick a new wheeler to replace my fallen wolverine. I would get another wolverine, but I really don't want an auto. (stupid yamaha turning everything auto) Anyway, I want something new by the end of the month so I don't have to ask to borrow my dads polaris anymore. I am open to suggestions though I am kind of brand loyal to Yamaha.
I am a very experienced rider, so I am looking for something with on the fly 2x4/4x4. Preferably not an auto. I want a good amount of power, yet I want it to be under 600 lbs. ( I don't need a 700 or 800) I want something with good clearance and it is my intention to put 589's on whatever i buy. So I am open to suggestions because I will be test driving a few over the next couple of weeks.

Hmmmm...there's nothing out there that fits everything you said. Yamaha doesn't make any manual 4x4's anymore above the 450cc class...so you're not getting a manual in this area. The only Yamaha ATV I could recommend you would be a Kodiak 450, it's auto, but it's got 4wd with diff-lock and Independent Rear Suspension and it's right around 600lbs...but power is on the lower side IMO.
If you want to take a look at a Suzuki, they've got the Vinson 500 manual...it's 4wd and it's got great power for a 500, right around 600lbs....diffinately a fun ATV since it's a manual.
Now is 4wd a must? Because if not that opens the door for a Raptor 700 which is a manual, but you couldn't put 589's on it.

Personally, I would like a light sporty 4X4 (ala the Wolverine), but I too dislike automatics, and the Wolverine is still kind of heavy for my taste.
The whole Rancher lineup is missing from the list of 07 Hondas, so I am hoping that Honda got the message and is going to turn the whole lineup into lightweight hybrids???????? I would hope for the 350 engine to be replaced by the 400 throughout the whole lineup, you could pick your prefered transmission (foot, ES, or AT), selectable 2wd/4wd, disk brakes, way lighter, better suspesion and tires, etc. Waiting to see!

I say you should get the 700EFI Griz if you are a Yamaha fan.
When you are on something that powerful you don't care if it is an auto or not.
