Hi, I have a 2000 Bayou 220 that is getting a little old. I’m looking at potential ATV’s to replace my Bayou. I don’t have much money so keeping the price low is a priority, and if I buy one, it will most likely be used. I will use this ATV to ride on trails (in the woods and around fields), ride through woods without trails, and I wanted to start jumping a little. So, pretty much what I am looking for is a reliable ATV with good low to mid end with respectable acceleration and top end. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sport or utility?

If sport, a 400EX.

 

Yeah I was looking at sport ATV's. 400ex does seem good and I can get it for $3000. There are other possibilities, for example I found a 2002 Raptor 660 for $3000 and a 2003 Predator 500 for about $3200. About those two, would they be too big for the woods (for example not being able to fit between trees) and Ive heard the Raptor is pretty tippy is that true?

Not any tippier than the others, but i would also go with the 400EX

To be honest, i dont know much at all about the DVX, but my neighbor has a 400ex and i like it

 

That is a first year Pred, I would stay away. There is a good reason Polaris updated that model significantly each of the first 3 or so model years. True, the Raptor won't handle as good as the 400EX, but it is still one heck of a trail quad. Plenty of good, useable power and decent suspension. 400EX's are quite capable in the woods and for jumping also. Any way you go is going to be quite an upgrade. I would lean towards the quad that has been taken care of the best, unless you really get a bug in your bonnett for one particular model.

 

Hi again, I havew another question. I just found a 2000 Yamaha Blaster with

"New top end w/3 hours use, FMF silencer, fatty pipe, nerfbars & more, no plastic cracks, normal scratches."

in the classifieds for $1500. If I sold my Bayou, I would barely have to pay anything for this quad. I'm pretty small (about 5' 3") so size wouldn't be too much of an issue with this. My question is would I be satisfied with this?

I would hazard to guess that the Blaster would be nearly idea for you. And it's extremely light, so it's easy to toss around the trails and such.

It's worth a check for sure. With a pipe/filter and proper jetting the little blaster really wakes up. Get a port job done and it'll be even better.

Not sure on the price, but it seems reasonable i guess. There's lots of blaster gurus on this site, so they'd be good people to ask.
