Its not what you pay for the bike, its the total you look at after you add up all the money you have put into it thats truely scary.

I just picked up a '98 Polaris Trailblazer for $300. The previos owner sais it neede a top end. I cleaned the carb, put in a new plug and air filter and it ran great. It did start to bog after a while. It ended up being the reverse rev limiter, so I unplugged it and it's fine.
