What kind of used ATV for me ?
Ok guys,
I have ridden dirtbikes for over 25 years and have never owned an ATV . I have ridden plenty but have never personally owned one. I am getting older and the bikes are getting taller so I am thinking about an ATV.
Here is what I currently do with a dirtbike and want an atv with the same capabilities. First off, I am a wheelie freak . If a buddy of mine is not good at getting the front end off the ground,he comes to me and asks me to see if his bike will wheelie. Also, I ride alot of tight woods and want the torque more than speed (which relates to the wheelies) . I also do not want to have something I will have to sink alot of $ into to get the above accomplished.
I am not partial to which of the big four I buy .
I also do not care if it is fourwheel drive or not .
There is a guy on the for sale board at work that has a 1998 polaris 400 sport with alot of aftermarket parts on it, including a big bore kit but it has either a cracked head or blown head gasket as there is steam coming out the exhaust . He wants $600 for it as is . One thing I don't like about this polaris is that it doesn't have gears and I also like to shift.
What do you guys think I need to try ?
Also, there is a 1999 350 Warrior with nothing wrong with it that I think I can get for $1500 fit my "bill" ?
Thanks,
D.

i say you sould get a warrior or a raptor 350. maybe a later model blaster. the blaster gots great acceloration and would beat a stock warrior or raptor in a drag race. also a blaster is really light and in a small package.

Find yourself a used Honda 400EX. It is a dead solid reliable machine and a superb woods quad!
I was riding a Warrior when most of the kids in this forum were in diapers, and I have to say that it was absolutely the WORST machine I ever owned! I would skip that one......

Would a 400EX have plenty of "*****" for my style ? Will it bring the front end off the ground ? I have never ridden one but like I said I have been riding for-ever and also raced with a Suzuki RM500 back in 89' .
Does anyone in here happen to live in Iowa ,own a 400 EX and would let a 36 year old ride their quad for a minute :-)
Thanks,
D.

The 400EX is one of the wheelie kings! It does well as a jumper, but I don't think I would want to motocross it. It has descent power (the motor has quite a bit of hop up potential, with just a few simple mods), it's torquey, and the perfect machine for tight woods.
