Good day guys...New to the forum and site, new to ATVing as well. Although I've been interested for quite some time, money as usual has prevented me from enjoying the recreation to its fullest. I'm in the market now, for buying, but unfortunately can only afford a used one at this point.. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $4-5K is max. The question I have, is when looking for a used deal on 2004, 2005, 2006 etc, what type of Mileage or Hours is a decent deal, with all other things being equal or ok. Is a 2005 with 1000 hours good/Bad? Not being sure of whats acceptable, I'm reluctant to buy at this point... thanks for any help you's can give....... Paulie..

 

If your budget is 4-5K, you can afford to go new if you wish. You didn't specify if you were interested in a sport or a ute, but as an example, guys are getting new 07 420 Ranchers (4x4) for right around $5k, even less for the 4x2 version. Numerous other quads available new within your price range as well, it all depends on the size (cc's) and options you desire. 06 hold-overs can be had for even less than new 07's. If my budget was around 5k, I would be thinking new, not used. Just my 2 cents on this subject...

 

paulie 1000 hrs is alot, my ride had about 70hrs, for 500 miles and i idle alot. just on that dude you better be cautious.

 

on my ute at about 1800 miles i hit 100 hours. i have seen people with 100 hours on and have as low as 400 miles though to. i dunno how accurate that is though with mine cause it doesn't seem like i go 18 miles for every hour i ride but we do run alot of gravel roads along with mud running and slow trail riding.

 

I got a new 06' eiger for 4599, I saw that new banshees are in the 5k range. I agree I would try to go new. If you go used in the ute class you are probably better off. Used sport bikes most likely will be run harder. Being new to the sport you DO NOT want to buy anything that has had engine work. Stock machines will be more reliable. Know what you are going to do. If you ride sand, get a banshee. Mx go with one of the 450s( i would wait a year for Kawi to work out the bugs). Trail riding, a z400 (new ones would probably be in your range) is hard to beat. Mud, one of the high displacement 4x4's. Mountains stay smaller, you may need to dig it out or man handle it, I would also recomend going with a manual trans for a mtn. ride. Engine breaks aren't good downhill, and on snow/ice you can't hold speed down with the autos. Thats my .02. I personally have a tricked out 660 raptor for sand and trails. I bought a manual Eiger for mtn riding and hunting

I have around 70 hrs. and 1000 miles On my S.P. 200 450 and only had it since the end of June....Caper.......Alot of miles on wide open trails!!!!!

 

Um, 4-5k? You can get a new bike, depending on what you want. You looking for a utility ( 4x4 ), or a sport quad?
