Default Need advice for new quad

I am going to purchase a quad, just not sure which one I should get. Want to do a little of everything (trail, track, dunes). I was looking at yamaha, honda, suzuki 450's, the Kaw 700 auto, raptor 700. Also was looking at a new 2006 polaris predator 500 TLD. I can get the predator for $4999 ($1500-$2000 less than the other quads). Seems for the price the predator is a good deal. Any recommendations

The best all-around machine is the Z400! The Z is pretty tame in stock form, but the engine will hop up nicely with just a few simple mods. The Raptor comes in second, but I personally don't like its ergonomics much.

I pick the 450R for the open desert, and the 400EX for really tight trails. The R likes to run fast where the country is wide open, and the EX will lug down and doesn't mind being ridden slowly on a tight trail.

The YFZ makes a nice track and play riding quad, but I wouldn't choose it for the open desert. Haven't ridden the Suzuki 450 yet.

That Kawi auto is a huge and heavy machine, that shouldn't really be considered a "sport" quad. It should be reserved only for huge guys who absolutely can't fit on anything else.

Personally, I would never own anything built by Polaris. I just don't trust their quality control.........

I doubt he wants a 4x4, they aren't the best for tracks or dunes.

I would lean towards the Z400 or the Rappy 700. The Kawi 700 is a bit big and heavy for tracks, lots of power tho. The Suzuki 450R would probably be the best on the track, but not so good on trails.

Sit on them all and try as many of them out as you can. Only you can decide which one feels the best for you.

The Predator should be a good all-round quad, but some ppl don't like Polaris. I used to have a Polaris utility, not the greatest quality but it was old too. So I can't really say much about that.

I'd lean towards the Raptor, efi is nice and the motor should be powerful. But its your call.

The KFX400 and z400 are identical except for colors and stickers........... Only the Arctic cat was different (plastic, bars, seat, pegs, suspension in 2005) but the KFX and z400 stayed the same the entire run of the KFX ........
