Hi all, newbie here. I have not looked at this machine yet, but he says it runs good but needs a few adjustments to the tranny. It is a 99 500 sportsman Polaris. I told him it was sold without looking at it. Can someone tell me what to look for as far as problem areas with these. Never been around a Quad at all, I have done a lot of work on sleds and bikes. I figure I can't go wrong unless it was in a fire for 700 bucks. Thanks.

 

No kidding THERE!!!!!! it would have to be TRASHED to not be worth $700

 

The first thing I would check out would be the; VIN.............with the DMV.

 

I would make sure that it is legit not stolen, just my $.02

 

He says he has a legal title, this guy is fairly well off and is trying to clean up his garage and all his rental properties. Says he doesn't have the time to mess with the four wheeler. I hope to get a look at it Tuesday or Wednesday. He said the motor runs great but the shift linckage needs adjustment. Like my boy said I can put another $700.00 into it and still be ahead. Thanks for the heads up on the vin #, I will check it with the title. My boy bought two 86 250 four trax for $300.00 from the same guy. One was motor and frame only, it had been rolled hard the swing arm was bent. The other had a fire around the headlight area but is still all together. My neighbor bought a running 250 fourtrax for $200 from him also. I believe everything is legit, hopefully I'm getting lucky and it won't need to much work. Thanks for the replies.

 

Sounds like you lucked out!!! There are people like that around here. Rich people that buy a 7 grand quad, bike or whatever and take it out for a ride. They find out that the trails are rough and, oh my, DUSTY!!! They then put it up for sale for 2 grand just to get rid of it. You have to jump on these deals, or someone else will beat you to it.
