Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum and need assistance with selecting an Sport Quad for my 15yr old son. He is 5'10" about 140lbs and has no experience. I've been told everything from a 150 to a 300 and I'm a little confused, we don't plan on doing anything extreme, just riding in local trails and fields. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you,
Rick

If you want a true sport quad, I would look at a raptor 350, a honda 300 ex or a 250. If you think he will ever need 4 wheel drive, I would look at an older 350 wolverine with a warn 424 selector on it. Or a yamaha 450 wolverine because they are selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive. I absolutely love mine and you can ride it pretty sporty or use 4x4 for really rough or muddy stuff.

i agree,
the 300ex is a great quad and also reliable..you can also think about a 250ex if he is a begginer because it has a sportclutch that's easy to use except he might outgrow it pretty fast. anyway just putting some suggestions out there for you

get him the 300ex.Its manuel shift. Sure he might have no experience but it wont take him long to learn how to use the clutch and shift gears. 15 is a hard age though, hes likely going to be growing quite a bit in a couple years and you dont want him to out grow something to fast, yet you dont want something that is too big in the meantime. The 300ex is a pretty fun little machine, he should beable to handle it pretty good right off the bat.

Since the Warrior got mentioned, got to say I was riding a Warrior when the teenagers in this forum were in diapers. It was the worst quad I ever owned! Sure, at the time we didn't know how bad it was, then great machines like the 400EX came along and we realized how bad it was. Skip the Warrior!

The warrior was a good quad that was reliable like almost all others when taken care of properly. It would be a decent quad for a beginner. I started on a very reliable Yamaha moto 4 80cc and then moved up to a 85 yamaha moto 4 250cc. I wish I could have had something more sporty like a 350 warrior.

Guys,
Thank you very much for your suggestions they been very helpful. I do have one more question and that has to do with motor size. On a dirt bike a 110cc thru 150cc is fine for a 15yr old that?s 5?10? and weighs about 150lbs. Is it safe to say that a 150cc thru a 300cc would be about the same on an ATV? I?m trying to make a wise selection without giving him too much power or give him something that?s underpowered.
Thank you again,
Rick
