What Will Your Future Purchases Be????
#1
I'm not thinking here about a pie in the sky wish list of imaginary ultimate machines, but rather machines that are realistic today...or maybe in the very near future........
In order of priority, my list is:
1) Fuel injected Honda 450R. This isn't going to be a reality in 08, but maybe 09?
2) Replace the old Rancher 350 with a new 420. We do all our utility riding at high altitude, so great to have FI.
3) Replace the old and tired 400EX that's going on 9 years old now, with a nice shiny new one! The EX is such a superb woods trail machine...always got to keep one in the stable!
The boys are getting older and will be able to graduate up from their 250s to my old 450 and old 400EX, so I will hand those down to them. They can fight over who gets to ride which one......

My future purchase will not be an ATV at all. I'm looking at a mid-late 80's Honda XL or XR (if I can find an XR) 250R. Stepping into the trail bike world now. Always wanted to have a dirt bike. I'd love to get a Kawi Super Sherpa, but senior management says nuh-uh to a brand new unit .. especially since I've never owned one before and don't even know really if I'll like it (as if!!)
For the 400EX, I like the idea of a new unit ... different styling from the 450R though so that they aren't going dowe the same path as RaptorGrizzlyha. It's nice to be able to identify a machine by sight. EFI would be nice, and a little more oomph, but still stay torquey.

If you are looking for an inexpensive pure trail dirt bike, the CRF230 is a real peach...and lighter than the old XR. Not tons of power, but still tons of pure fun......

Yeah there's a couple of those for sale around here but for something that's two or three, even four years old they want damn near list price for them If I could just convince the wife to let me get a new one

I MIGHT, just might consider a 2000 400EX I found for sale not far from my cabin. They want 2700 for it (low for around these parts, but probably a better reflection of worth). They say it has over $600 in new parts on it. What could go wrong with these that would require that level of repair? A little gun shy on it.

Ask what kind of "parts". Could mean performance upgrades, like header, exhaust, etc.
I would be a little wary if the "parts" are plastic. That might mean it has seen a lot of abuse.
If the "parts" are engine parts like piston, cam, etc., I would pass it up!

Cheers. I've also found a 2003 XR250 for 3600 which is more in line with what I would expect to pay since new (at least in other brands with similar features) they retail for over 6k. A brand new CRF230 (all out of stock unfortunately) retails for 4399, a 2003 on private sale is looking anywhere from 3400 - 3900 .. don't make sense to me.
