Looking at 2005 YFZ 450
I am looking at a 2005 Yamaha YFZ 450. I really like this one. We are going to look at It tomorow and I wanted to know some things about it. I found that it is not a very good trail bike but that is mostly what I will be doing. I will also have it on the road and in some fields where it will get to its full power but will It work good in the trails. They are in the woods with some occasional mud but mostly just dry dirt. I have been looking for a good bike and this sounds like a good one. Also I am a big guy so will It carry me good. Is this a very reliable 4 wheeler? Do they have any problems or anything that would not do well in trails. Would this work alright in the trail because that is mostly what it will be used for? Thanks
Is there anything else I should know?

It will do well in the trails. I just took mine for a 30 mile trail ride yesterday and it did fine.
It does require a bit of clutch work when you're going slow becuase the motor likes to rev. That is no big deal. Also you don't have reverse but again, the quad is 350 lbs so you can just pick it up if needed.
But it works well. Also it is lightweight, nimble, and not that wide which is nice.
I'm 6-2 and 235, I used to be 255, and it pulls me well. It's actually easier to ride when you're a bigger dude because you can toss it around pretty easily.

anything can be ridden in trails if you know wut your doin...04-05 GNCC racing thats all they used was yfz450's, trx450r's and kfx/z 400's...idk if you know wut that is but its Grand Nation cross country racing...they go through mud, rocks, streams, fields, u name it...they are a great quad for all around use...as far as reliable they made alot of changes from 04 in 05 so its like a complete different bike wit the gear box set up and so on...but u said dry dirt youll be riding you should be more than fine...and you have plenty for the roads to give it...good luck

All the 450's like to rev, and the engines don't like to lug down. Plus, the Yamaha is sprung still, for the track.
If you ride a tight trail, that means you are going to have to keep it reved and work the clutch. I rode my buddies on a tight trail the other day, and I was never so glad to get off a quad in my life. It beat me to death with that stiff suspension. I was glad to get back on the 400EX!

vunit...those people who race the gncc also dont give a **** if they break something eather because there sponser will just give them a new one. a 700 raptor whould probaly be better but the yfz450 whould do fine. you can find the yfz450 cheaper to because there are so meny of them out there. if you get the yfz450 i whould just get a good clutch so you dont burn it out so easy.
