TRX450R or YFZ450?
#2
I have always liked the YFZ as a track/play bike, but never found it comfortable for long cross-country rides.
The R is the king of desert endurance racing (Baja, Vegas to Reno), so that has to say something right there about the durability of the machine! It is my pick for open desert riding.
Frankly, I don't like any of the 450's for trail riding. (To me a "trail" is something 50" wide, that snakes through the woods, and is semi-technical in spots.) These engines are all rev, which isn't really the hot setup for riding through technical sections. When you have to go slow, there is lots of clutch work required, and that gets old real fast. The 400EX (or Rancher if it is really nasty) is my trail quad pick.

All the 450s are drived from there high strung motocross bike of each manufacturer. I,m into motocross racing and they only do so many hours before a rebiuld is required. A fun reliable ATV is more like a 400EX.
