250 Baja
#1
I just bought a Baja 250 atv at Pepboys but it will not start. I tried charging the battery but it did not help. Call Baja and they told me to charge at 2 amps and I told them that I charged it at the 10 amp rate. They said batteries are not included in the warranty and that I should not have done it at 10 amps. Where do I get a battery for this or can I charge the new one that came with this new atv? How do I start it manually? I've had this two months and have never gotten it started. I'm new to this so any help will be appreciated in any and all areas dealing with ATVs.
Thanks,

Check your owner's manual to see if it might have a backup recoil or kick starter.
You should be able to push start it. Trun the key on and make sure the kill switch is on (might need some choke as well). Put it in 3rd gear and hold the clutch while someone tows you (or get several people to push you). When you get up to speed, pop the clutch. That will turn the engine over, just like a starter.
Good lesson folks, of why you need to buy from long established manufacturers and reputable dealers who have a parts department!!

Welcome to the reality of off brand Chinese made ATVs. Your scenario is very very common. In fact, I don't know of any one that hasn't had similar problems of poor customer service and poor parts availability with their off brand Chinese ATVs. The failure rate on those things is 100%.
As far as a battery goes, I would go to a good ATV aftermarket place that sells the aftermarket parts, but not necessarily the new ATVs themselves. Places that come to mind are actionoffroad.com, Rockymountainatv.com, etc. Tell them the dimensions of your battery, the cold cranking amps you need, where the terminals are located on the battery (side vs top), and they should be able to get you a reasonable match that is going to work.

Thanks for the info. To push start, you said to turn the key on and the kill switch on. Shouldn't the kill switch be off?
Also, is there anything else that would prevent it from starting since the battery charger indicates that the battery is charged so it may not be the battery.
Thanks,

It should push start, even without a battery. I will run on the generator.
