Used yfz450/new polaris 450/525s/Irs
#1
I wanna buy a sport quad w a manual eventually. My friend has a 2003/4ish yfz 450 he wants around 4 grand for it.then I see the new polaris 450/525.I like to ride trails agressively w a mx session occassionally.I like the idea of the all out 450s but I like the idea of having irs an not have to kill myself dual ******* it up rocky hills etc.2 questions are the 525 faster more or better a bike then a 450 an what do you think of IRs vs SRA.Then theres pricing I really dont or not at all happy to have to spend 8 plus grand out the door when everything else is so freaking expensive.

if your going to mx alot i would get the ktm450 the $8800 is very high but with all the "goodies" you could'nt build it cheaper plus if you have a pure stock class ohhh boy look out.i live in north western NC and i ride with 700raptors,trx-450s,z400s and 400ex's. they all do good on the trails and hillclimbs but they do take a beating. i was going the get the 525irs this spring but i'm going to wait for the '09 models to see what changes polaris is making.Dirt Wheels did a comparsion between the 525s and irs. they said the irs is a more controlable, forgiving quad but slower after 200ft mark in a drag.the irs is about $300 more in mrsp than the sra. i agree the prices on everything is outrageous unless you want to sell something then it's not worth much.

There are plenty of used 450's out there, but the Outlaws are looking pretty good if you go new. IRS is more of a hindrence than help on the mx track. You just have to weigh the options, only you know how much weight to put on each feature in the purchase process.

the yfz450 is going to be best on the track. i dont like the 525 irs. it will do good on trail but will suffer on the track. the 525s is a pretty nice machine. it will do ok on the trail and ok on the track. kind of like a inbetween a yfz450 and a 525 irs. btw if you get a yfz450 i whould trying to get 05 + they are alot better. right now is the time to buy "almost" new quads because people are having to sell the quad they bought a few years ago in the housing boom and now they have to get rid of all their toys because to the housing market.
and if you are buying new i whould look at the ktm (if you can come up with that ammount) or the ltr450(a little less $ but great quad). i dont trust the cam-am no weld frame yeat.
for 8g i whould get a ltr450. dont know where you live so dont know what the prices are there but here in cali i whould think you chould get a ltr450 otd for less than 8. maybe even with the big 3 (pipe, filter, fi controler).

if you get the ktm and want to mx effectively then you still have to get new a-arms (+4)
The axle on the ktm should be fine since its adjustable between 45" and 48"
