Extended warranty...worth it?
#1
I was wondering what you all think about extended warranties on new vehicles. I just bought one and will pick it up saturday. I initially told them no, but could get one when I pick it up.
Do you get them. I have gotten them on my automobiles and made money on every one. I know ATVs require a lot of service that would not be covered, but is the "pre-paid service" (essentially what a warranty is) worth it?

I've bought em but never had to make a claim. I shopped around for the best deal when I bought one for my new Ford truck. Saved over 50 percent by looking around. Never buy one from the dealer especially when the finance guy tells you he can add to your loan. Not only will you overpay for the extended warranty, but you'll end up paying even more because you've financed it.

My Ford truck extended warranty is about to end in May after 6 years. Never had to use it once however when my wife's Dodge Neon extended warranty ended, she developed a problem with the air direction guides in the dash. (ac cold air was being directed towards the feet and not the dash vents) Three days in Dodge garage and $990 later it was fixed. Her $1500 five year extended warranty had ended just 6 months earlier. It's a gamble, you never know although the odds say your ahead money of you don't buy one.

it is worth it. heres why: at 43K the tranny in my Z71 goes out; if i had the extended warranty I would have NOT paid $2400 for a new one. when something went ari with the drive train i got a $980 bill. IF i had the extended warranty, I would not have to pay 1 CENT. The extended warranty was about $1200. After over $3800 in repairs, do you think it was a good idea? And no, i did not treat the thing rough either. I kept it for awhile, paid it off and then got a toyota, diluded by the supposedly "superior quality." well, 50 weeks after i had enough of the 'superior quality' and went back to a chevy z71, with bumper to bumper for 75K, drivetrain for 100K (this part is standard) but mine is for a few more years.
I will get it on anything i buy. for few hundred, got it on the 450R for 3 yrs b/c the engine ALONE costs $3500 from what ive been told. these things cost allot and allot to repair to not have extended warranty - even if i never need it- its kinda like health insurance. you hope and pray you never need it- but its good that you have it.

with an ATV not as complex as a car, chances are on an new ATV if something breaks its probably going to be big enough to be covered on the regular one. also modifications can void. Most atvers like to tinker tinker tinker
