is the sportsman you looking at the 400 2stroke?if it is i got the same motor in mine. it's geared for a 24" rear tire and i put a 22"rear tire on. i can pull the front wheels off the ground on command. i have'nt raced a 400ex yet but just watching them ride i don't think they have more power than me.i'm in the process of rebuilding mine.just as soon as i get new shocks for it i think i can hang with them.i don't want to ride very hard untill some more parts are replaced. i climb hills as good or better than they can.on the other hand there's a guy with a trx450 and another with a yammy 250 dirt bike that has "brass ones" if you know what i mean LOL it all depends on personal preffrence than others opinons. at times i wish i had a big bore 4x4 other times i wish a had a sport quad but i'm happy with what i've got. much like you i want another quad but have no idea what i want.

they're some nice hop up parts for the 400L. it can surprize you with the power output. if you ge tthe sportsman contact rick ritter at rittercycles.com. he has the best deal going.pipe, silencer, air filter, air box mod, clutch kit and jets for your specific style and alt. i think it's around $375 for all of it.he even has a 5mm(427cc) stroker motor or kit if you want to go that route.
