I went to tower city riding park and my z400 broke and i had to borrow a polaris sportsman 500 and fell in love with the utility 4x4's. I am looking to buy and brand new one and i need to do research on what is my best investment. I do a lot of mudding and i need reliability! please give me input! thanks.

We all have our own taste's in quads and look for diff things. In my opinion it is absoultely pointless to have a big h/p 4x4 quad as you rarely get to use all that h/p most of the time you will be going 20-40 mph. Most any 4x4 over 400cc's can accomplish this so the extra cc's is just a waste of money. I would highly reccomend a Polaris for work or trail riding, They also have the Cadillac of suspensions in the atv world. I finally got a chance to ride a new Grizz 700 and I would have to say if you are looking fun all around quad it is hard to beat.
Like I was saying early'r to each man his own but the one reccomendation I will make is whatever machine you buy get one w/ EFI you will appreciate it in the long run!!!!

Yeah they are all great machines, depends on what you want to do with it. Since you drove a Sportsman 500, you know what the 800 will be like, same bike just way more power. The Brute will give a fast, sporty ride but isn't as comfortable as the Polaris. Grizz will have least power, but is generally rated as one of the more sporty, lighter feeling quads. King is also a good solid allround bike.
Since you are coming from a sportquad, I would say go with a lighter, sportier, more powerful quad. Brute/Renegade comes to mind. But if you liked the Polaris, then really you need to go ride them all and check them out at your local dealerships, and see which one you prefer.

The Polaris does ride like a Cadillac. The problems I've had with my 600 twin appears that it's just about as unreliable as an old Dhaihatsu. I would recommend against a Polaris. I'm looking into a Grizzly 350 or 450 for my wife. A friend has a 660 & never has problems.

One person says unreliable and another says bulletproof. The quality control might be all over the place, but all of my Polaris' have been pretty good. And a lot less trouble than my best friend's Yammys.

I beat the snot out of my BF 750 (work not play) and it has never given me a lick of trouble. if you are just going mudding on it though i cant recommend the brute one way or the other as mine is used 90% for work... i use my other quads for play.

Buy whatever you like the looks of. If you plan to lift it some day & run bigger tires for mudding, I would go with a bigger engine, like 700-800cc's.
