Need help on helmet selection for my son!!??!!
#1
I am new into the sport and just bought my son a mini 110 cc and need some help on helmet selectiing.
The size of his head is 54 cm and according to most manufacturer only the youth L or XL might fit otherwise has to go for an adult XS (which is the same size about 54 to 55 cm).
My question is: is there any difference between a kid / youth helmet vs adult helmet?
If the size falls within adult XS can I get an adult one instead of looking for a dedicated youth / kids size XL?
Thank you very much in adavance!

Is there a dealer nearby? I'd recommend taking him in and just trying on a helmet. That way, you know what size he needs, and can order online, or just buy from the dealer.
Getting the right fit is very important. Also, getting one that he'll "grow into" can be very dangerous.

If what Scooter said is not avail to you you can go to places such as rockymountatv.com and they have sizing charts that you can use. Though getting the right fit is the best way and as Scooter said would try some on at you local atv store to make sure that you are getting fitted properly!

I agree here...... you need to get the right fit, and the only real way is to try them on. And as was said don't get on he can "grown into" because it won't be protecting him right.
I would say get one that is Snell approved, but I understand for a kid that is going to grow out of it the extra money is hard to spend. And really a DOT approved one should be OK......
Different brands have sightly different sizes.... the manufacturers have done a great job in recent years spelling out their sizing, and shopping online is fine once you know the exact size....
But an HJC might not fit the same as a Fox or a Bell etc.... even if the sizes are the same.
I have an HJC and a THOR that are the same size, but the THOR is a bit bigger, not too big but you can feel it is not as tight a fit....
I would just head to the local dealers and put a few on his head...

Like D57H mentioned, Rocky Mountain is very good. If you go to their website, they will tell you how to size the helmet.
Also, they have a very good return policy if it's not the right size. They'll send a return label, and once they get the wrong sized helmet, send out the correct one at no extra cost.
