Another new guy looking to buy thread..... SORRY!
#1
Hi there,
Sorry for making another new thread but we all have to start somewhere right?
Im looking to purchase 2, possibly 3 used ATV's. One for me, the wife, and possibly the child.
*Uses- Mostly trail riding, some mud, and some snow here in Wisconsin.
*Im assuming 4x4 will be needed to fit my requirements.
*Budget is $2500 each, as I need to leave some money to buy equipment and a trailer.
*Must be easy to learn on, and very reliable.
*They do not need to be fast as they wont be used for racing of any sort, but speed is never a bad thing.
*If it matters Im 6'1" 200lbs.
Looking for some suggestions, please include make/model and what to look for when buying used.
I am also thinking of getting our 4 year old one, what would be a solid model for him? ($1000 budget).
Thanks in advance!!
Steve

Look for a two to four year old: Suzuki Eiger or Honda Rancher - both 400 class machines. Plenty fast enough and you should be able to find them in that price range.

I see both jaybee and recon had LT80's as past rides, there's a good choice for your little one, turn the throttle limit in, or find one that still has the carb and exhaust orafice limiters, and your child will have a ball, and be able to ride it for years. I started my 4.5 year old on an LT80, when he got older, rebuilt the motor, modded the clutch and intake, put a pipe on it, and he had a little "racer" until he was 8 years old. Used ones are fairly cheap, they are good runners, and lots of parts available to fix them with. Don't buy a cheapo China model, you will spend more time fixing than riding.

If you really want something easy to learn on get an automatic. It's so easy a caveman could do it.

The Warn 424 is a great little device, it replaces the front driveshaft with a little cable operated disconnect that allows you to be in 2wd for dry trails and sporty riding, and with the push of a button on a spring loaded ****, go right back to 4wd when the trail gets sloppy, or you need more pull. I put one on my Wolverine, it makes it powerslide like a sport quad, putting all the power to the back wheels. Best 230 bucks I eve spent, and if you find a used one on eBay, maybe even cheaper.
